Our clients came to us with a brief to create a spacious, light filled family kitchen dining space, and the all important ground floor toilet. As with many semi-detached Victorian homes, the footprint of the ground floor is long and narrow, with limited opportunities for light and views to the rear garden.
This property was no exception, with the further challenge that it steps down a hill towards the rear garden.
Through a number of feasibility options, we looked at the best place to locate the WC, and how that might impact the layout of the kitchen. We also looked at how we could make the sloping site work to our favour, and create some drama with changing internal floor levels, and how we could maximise light from the side, as well as from above, keeping an eye on the all important Building Regulations that can restrict these sorts of things.
The resulting scheme is a light filled, family friendly entertaining space which connects to the garden.
